Steve Burton is iconic to video game audiences everywhere for his portrayal as the original Cloud Strife in the Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy Franchise. Burton voiced Cloud Strife for over 15 years for both game franchises as the brooding swordsman from Square Enix's Final Fantasy universe. He first voiced the character in Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII (2006) and the CG film Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (2006), reprising the role across the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, including Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII (2008), Dissidia Final Fantasy (2009), Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy (2011), and Dissidia Final Fantasy NT (2018). His stoic delivery also echoed in Mobius Final Fantasy (2017–2018) and the Kingdom Hearts series (Kingdom Hearts 2002, Kingdom Hearts II 2005, and remakes). He was nominated for a Behind The Voice Actors Award for World of Final Fantasy (2016).
His breakout role came in 1991 as Jason Quartermaine—later renamed Jason Morgan—on ABC's General Hospital, a character he portrayed intermittently from 1991 to 2012, 2017 to 2021, and resuming in 2024. This iconic performance earned him a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in 1998, along with multiple Soap Opera Digest Awards, cementing his status as a soap opera legend.
Burton's television credits extend beyond soaps, showcasing his range in dramatic and genre roles. He debuted on Days of Our Lives in 1988 as Harris Michaels, followed by a stint on the sci-fi comedy Out of This World (1987–1990) as Chris Fuller. In 2013, he joined CBS's The Young and the Restless as Dylan McAvoy, winning another Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in 2017 before departing in 2017. Guest spots include Steven Spielberg Presents 'Taken' (2002) as Randall Keys and General Hospital: Night Shift.
